LEGO Insiders Program Explained

updated 2026-10-10 · 3 min · Robert

LEGO Insiders, formerly LEGO VIP, is LEGO's loyalty program for adults aged 18 and over, and it costs nothing to join. You join by creating an account, earn points on LEGO.com and LEGO Store purchases and by registering sets, and spend them on discounts and rewards. Points expire after 18 months without earning or redeeming.

LEGO Insiders is the loyalty program that replaced LEGO VIP in 2023 (what changed). If you are new to it, this page covers the basics. Each part links to a more detailed guide.

Joining

It doesn't cost anything to join (LEGO says so in its launch announcement). You have to be at least 18 years old, and all you need is a LEGO account. There are three ways to sign up, and after signing up you get a welcome email and a digital card.

  • Online: go to LEGO.com/Insiders, create an account or log in, and follow the steps. This is the quickest.
  • In a LEGO Store: ask a Brick Specialist to sign you up. Stores marked with a yellow flag are LEGO Certified Stores, which can't earn or redeem points, so pick another location. The store locator shows the nearest one.
  • By phone: LEGO customer service can walk you through creating the account. The number for your country is on LEGO.com/service.

Two things to get right: use the LEGO.com site for the country you live in, because your account's region has to match the site you redeem on, and use the same email address as any recent LEGO.com order. LEGO can then add the points from that order to your balance. For older orders, contact customer service.

Earning points

  • Purchases on LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores. Points are based on the amount you pay after any discount.
  • Registering sets: 20 points per set. See how to register a set.
  • Surveys and quizzes, and visiting the LEGO Facebook page. LEGO doesn't publish how many points these give.
  • Double points promotions, which LEGO says it runs sometimes. See Does LEGO offer more VIP points?

Earning rates depend on the currency you shop in, for example 6.5 points per $1, 8 per £1, 7.5 per €1, 5 per C$1 and 4.5 per A$1. In every region that works out to about 5% back.

Some details that catch people out:

  • In-store purchases earn points immediately. Online and phone orders earn them once the order ships and payment is taken.
  • Gift cards don't earn points when you buy them, but you do earn points when you pay with one.
  • LEGO Certified Stores (marked with a yellow flag) and other retailers don't earn or redeem points.

Spending points

Points can be used for discounts on future purchases, exclusive sets and items, digital products such as alternative building instructions, event tickets and member-only sweepstakes. Discounts and physical rewards are claimed with promo codes. In a LEGO Store you need your digital Insiders card.

LEGO sets a minimum for each region, for example 650 points for $5 off in the US. The points value guide has the minimum for each currency, and the calculator shows what a balance is worth. If something goes wrong when you redeem, see LEGO points won't redeem? 7 common issues.

Expiry

Points expire only if you go 18 months without earning or redeeming any. Any earning or redeeming resets the timer. LEGO emails you when your points are close to expiring. Details: How long are LEGO points valid?

Things you can't do

  • Points can't be shared or transferred (why, and what to do instead).
  • LEGO updated its terms in 2026 for accounts used for professional reselling. Read the current Insiders terms if that applies to you.
  • LEGO can change the program rules, so check LEGO.com before a large purchase.
